Washington Elementary's Green Team Commemorates Earth Day

Earlier today, to commemorate Earth Day, Washington Elementary School’s Green Team distributed wildflower seeds to every student in the school.   The seeds were purchased with prize money last year’s Green Team earned from PepsiCo after winning a for skit competition in which the students talked about the importance of recycling during the holidays.
The skit, which was written by current fifth-grader, Sydney Glover, was centered around a holiday party and all of the waste created at the party with plastic bottles, straws and bags. The skit included “fun facts” about recycling, including the fact that the average person creates four pounds of trash per day.
This year’s Green Team is led by teacher, Mrs. Tammy Williams and composed of fourth graders, Christian Anderson, Charlotte Gilsan, Reagan Hathaway, Evan Joslin, Marah Namas, Maura Ralston, and Kaylee and Khloe Wong.
Washington Elementary continues to participate in PepsiCo’s National Recycling program.  Mrs. Williams periodically takes the plastics and aluminum cans that are collected to Michael Brothers to be recycled.
